BALLAST WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (BWMS / BWTS)

The Ballast Water Management Convention entered into force on 8th September 2017.

All new ships built after 8th Sept 2017 must meet D2 Standard.

D2 standard specifying the maximum amount of viable organisms allowed to be discharge, including specified indicator microbes harmful to human health. Basically it involves installing ballast water management system.

All Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) must be IMO type approval type.

All existing ships built before 8th Sept 2017, with renewal survey after 8th Sep 2019, must meet the D2 standard during renewal survey.

All ships must meet D2 standard by 8th Sep 2024.
